women’s coaching pathway
AFC Wimbledon is committed to empowering the next generation of young female leaders through the power of football. Through the creation of a comprehensive coaching pathway, we aim to provide young women with the opportunity to unlock their full potential as leaders in the game. Our primary goal is to establish supportive, inclusive environments that fosters the growth and development of young female coaches. By offering funded qualifications, hands-on industry experience, and pathways to paid positions, we are committed to supporting women to thrive within our local football community.
LeaD ON aims…
To Inspire the next generation of leaders in our game.
We aim to ignite ambition in young women, inspiring them to see themselves as leaders in football. By showcasing successful female coaches and offering mentorship, we will build the confidence and drive needed to pursue coaching as a fulfilling career.
To Transform the coaching landscape for women in the game.
Our initiative seeks to break down barriers and create equal opportunities for women in coaching. Through a clear pathway with funded qualifications and hands-on industry experience, we will enhance female representation and leadership at all levels of the game.
To Sustain participation through creating lasting change for future generations.
We will create long-term impact by offering continuous support, professional development, and career progression. Our inclusive network of female coaches will empower the next generation to stay engaged and lead the sport for years to come.
The AFC Wimbledon Foundation has established a three-tiered strategy to increase the number of female football coaches in Merton and Wandsworth, aiming to inspire and develop the growing number of girls participating in the sport. This initiative already engages 950 women and girls on a weekly basis. The tiered approach is divided into three groups, as follows:
Ages 13-15: Young students interested in joining AFCWF’s girls' football education programmes, seeking insight and leadership experience.
Ages 16-21: Individuals engaged in AFCWF programmes or affiliated partners, aiming to explore a career in coaching.
Ages 18+: Those who have completed their I2CF and wish to pursue meaningful employment as football coaches.
