A message from our Chair of Trustees
Hello,
It is a pleasure to introduce myself as Chair of Trustees for the Club’s charity, AFC Wimbledon Foundation. I am proud to lead this inspiring charity that makes such a difference in our local community, working to build a healthier, stronger and equitable future.
My role as Chair involves overseeing the strategic direction of the Foundation, ensuring we deliver impactful programmes that inspire, engage, and empower individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
Away from AFC Wimbledon I am the Director of Dulwich Picture Gallery, the world’s first purpose-built public art gallery. I have served on the boards of several charities, and I am a passionate advocate of inclusion, female leadership, and the power of sport and creativity to transform lives.
At AFC Wimbledon Foundation we reach more than 3,500 participants every single week, from older people playing walking football to children who have never previously had access to an active lifestyle. We are hugely grateful to all our supporters whose financial and moral support allows us to support, inspire and deliver positive change. A special mention to MidexPRO and Wimbledon Foundation, we are forever grateful for your belief in us.
One of the most memorable moments of my time with the Foundation so far has been when I was asked to speak at a panel event celebrating the role of women across all AFC Wimbledon’s activities. At one point I was highlighting our women’s weekly recreational football sessions, when someone shouted from the audience “Women’s rec has changed my life. It’s amazing!”.
Then, when I was describing the Foundation’s mentoring programme where young people can find pathways into employment, a participant shouted out “It’s true! And girls can become coaches and managers thanks to the Foundation”. I could not have been happier about these hecklers - it’s the best affirmation of a charity’s impact when the participants do the talking for you.
We will soon be launching the Foundation’s new 3-Year Strategy – a bold plan to amplify our impact, tackle inequalities and bring even more opportunities to the local community. Ahead of this, I want to pay tribute to the Foundation’s staff, coaches and volunteers and our Board of Trustees for their unerring dedication and skill.
The launch of the new strategy will take place at our upcoming Awards Night on Thursday 8th May, which will be an unforgettable evening celebrating the incredible achievements of those who make a real difference in our community.
Please join us at this special event, where you can expect an inspiring evening full of awards, stories of impact, welcome drinks, canapés, and a fantastic atmosphere.
The night is free to attend, but we kindly ask all guests to make a donation to support AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s vital work. Your generosity will help us to create life-changing opportunities for our community.
I’ll see you there. Thank you,
Jennifer Scott
