Dress to impress

Show everyone who you are fundraising for by wearing our branded AFC Wimbledon Foundation T-Shirt - get in touch, tell us what you’re doing and we’ll get a t-shirt in the post to you or you can come and collect it from Plough Lane and have a look around the stadium

Spread the word online and on social media

Using WhatsApp and social media is one of the best ways to make sure everyone knows about your fundraising.

Whatsapp

  • Send awareness messages out on all your WhatsApp groups, telling people what you’re doing and why and link to your page

  • Once people are aware of your fundraising then send direct WhatsApp messages asking people to sponsor you

  • Thank people on group messages - it’s the right thing to do and it encourages more people in the group to sponsor you

Twitter

  • Tweet and tell people information about what you're doing and why and link to your page

  • Follow relevant people, local businesses and important people in your community. If they follow you back it might open up new opportunities for help with your event or donations.

  • @reply your close connections on Twitter and ask them to retweet your tweets.

  • Remember, if you want everyone who’s following you to see your tweets don’t include an @name at the front of your message.

  • Try and mention @AFCW_Foundation as we love to see your tweets and we’ll retweet them

  • Communicate with people outside of your followers by using a hashtag. Make hashtags relevant and always use your local area (like #wimbledon or #merton).

  • Thank people on twitter!

Facebook

  • Update your Facebook status about your fundraising, tell people why you're doing it, share a link to your online fundraising page.

  • If you're hosting an event, create an event on Facebook to invite friends and followers.

  • Update Facebook regularly with your fundraising journey

  • Thank people of Facebook!

Instagram

  • Upload photos to Instagram to engage people every step of the way and be sure to use hashtags to help you reach more people.

  • Update friends on your preparation so they know how much work you’re putting into raising money for our essential community work.

  • Don't forget to wear your AFC Wimbledon Foundation t-shirt in your selfies.

  • Thank people on Instagram!

Thanking your donors/ sponsors is the most important thing!

Get your fundraising story into local press

Local press love stories about fundraisers in their area. Get in touch and ask them to run your story before and after your event. When contacting your local paper, contact their news desk and send a press release/ information about what you are doing, when and why.

Finally

Send reminders to people asking for sponsorship or to buy a ticket to your event. You’re doing an amazing thing for a great cause - and it can take up to three direct messages before someone sponsors / donates. We all lead busy lives and need nudging sometimes!

Time your posts, messages and updates for maximise impact. Send your messages when people are likely to be on their phones - evenings, early morning, lunch times etc

Be Proud. You’re doing an amazing thing for a great cause!
