Why Peter loves coming to our Veterans Breakfast Club

75-year-old Peter has been attending AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast club since the programme began almost 18 months ago, and enjoys getting together with likeminded people every month.

On Monday he joined fellow veterans, along with Foundation and Club staff for a remembrance service on the pitch at Plough Lane. The ceremony was lead by Padre Andrew White, with The Last Post being played, followed by a 2 minute silence. The service finished with those gathered around the centre-circle singing Abide With Me.

I really recommend getting down to one of the Veterans Breakfast sessions hosted at AFC Wimbledon, you don’t feel like a stranger as others in the room have had the same or similar experiences as you
— Peter, Veterans Breakfast Attendee

It was a special event for Peter, explaining that “the remembrance service that AFC Wimbledon Foundation hold is really important to me, over the years I have lost very good friends, and it’s a really special time for me to think about those people I have lost who are close to me”.

AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing Lead, Chloe Turner, explained that Peter is a valued member of the Veterans Breakfast, “always chatting and laughing with the others and giving his assistance, knowledge and expertise to other members when they need it”.

Petter added that “it’s a great place to connect with people and just have a chat and a laugh with people with the same sense of humour as you once a month”.
