Joining forces for a vital cause

AFC Wimbledon Foundation partners with The Nelson Health Centre!

Find out more about a range of services that could transform your life – and that includes sporting activities provided by our very own Foundation!

We’ve teamed up with Nelson Health Centre to support its Community Open Day with Dons supporters and local residents invited to pop along to the facility in Kingston Road, Wimbledon.

Though ‘The Nelson’ has become a go-to venue for supporting community health with facilities including GP surgeries and providing mental health support, it has also become a real focal point for local people.

As part of this, our Foundation will have a presence at the open day, offering a chance to find out about sporting activities for people of all ages and backgrounds.

This includes the following:

  • Walking Football

  • Dons fitness sessions for over 40s

  • Fitness and sports for disadvantaged young people

  • Sessions for adults and children with special educational needs

Fiona Sutherland, Community Development Manager at our Foundation, said: “We’re excited to be partnering with the Nelson Health Centre to help increase the health and well-being of football fans and local residents. We look forward to joining the Community Open Day to showcase some of the events and activities the Foundation has on offer to support residents of all ages across Merton.”

Key activities that people can find out about tomorrow include the following:

  • Mental health services offered by South West London and St George’s NHS Trust

  • Physiotherapy services provided by Connect Health

  • Support from local health charities during the ‘cost of living crisis’

  • Access to the Merton pop-up library, along with stalls offering crafts and other goods

Sarah Beaumont-Smith, Director at South West London Health and Care Partnership, said: “The Nelson has grown to become a central part of the local community, supporting the health and well-being of residents across Merton, so the Community Open Day is a great chance to find out more about the wide range of new and existing services available. We look forward to welcoming people of all ages from the local community.”
