Represent AFC Wimbledon in Race EUROPE Challenge
Raise funds for the essential work of the AFC Wimbledon Foundation by joining our squad to take on 14 other London football clubs as part of the Race Europe challenge!
Working in squads of 23, each club will aim to be the fastest to cover the 6,720 miles that separate all of the Euro 2021 Host Cities.
The event is currently scheduled to begin on the 1st of March and participants can log miles in over 70 different activities including running, swimming, cycling, football, workouts and walking (subject to any government guidelines).
We will be monitoring the government guidance on exercise and outdoor activities over the next few weeks and constantly reviewing and adapting the list of approved activities to make sure that the challenge can be completed safely and in line with all legislation.
An online event portal will chart the progress of each club team, and as a squad reaches a host city information about that location and its footballing history will be unlocked.
All funds raised from the event will support the AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s work in our local community. Since the Covid pandemic hit, the Foundation has been working tirelessly to ensure there are sufficient provisions in place to support young people who have been most affected by the pandemic. So far the Foundation has provided multisport and educational holiday programmes that have included food provisions to over 250 disadvantaged young people and are looking to expand outreach going into February half term and the Easter holidays. The Foundation has also been supporting over 30 primary and secondary schools to ensure students who have missed out on key developmental stages are given every opportunity to catch up with their counterparts.
However there are many more people in need of the Foundation’s support as the impact of Covid-19 continues to disrupt our communities affecting both their physical and mental health. The challenge will raise vital funds to keep the momentum of the Foundation’s work going throughout the next few months.
You will need to pay £10 entry fee and we’re asking participants to aim to raise £250 in sponsorship although this should not be seen as a barrier to prevent you from taking part.
You will be able to track your activity on Strava, Fitbit, Garmin etc. and link this up to the challenge website.
