Wombles Win at Wembley

AFC Wimbledon were crowned winners of the 2025 Utilita Girls Cup after a 1-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra at Wembley.

Represented by Surbiton High School, a second-half decisive strike from Sahara Heywood secured the silverware.

With the two teams unable to be split in the first period, a brilliant run down the left flank from Charlotte Mason saw the ball played inside with Heywood steering the finish past the goalkeeper.

The runners-up Crewe, were represented by Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College and gave it their all but ultimately couldn't find the equaliser.

Former England midfielder Izzy Christiansen, Utilita Girls Cup ambassador, handed over the trophy to the winning side from Wembley's Royal Box.

After earning the right to represent EFL Clubs regionally and play in their official colours, the teams progressed through the area and regional phases to make it all the way to the Wembley showpiece.

Defender Molly Preston was named Player of the Match, with the winners keeping a clean sheet.
