Building a brighter future: Yusuf’s story…
When 22-year-old Yusuf arrived from Sierra Leone less than two years ago, he was eager to build a new life in the UK. Working in construction, his future looked bright, until personal challenges suddenly turned his world upside down.
Following his arrest in May, Yusuf was referred to DIVERT London and Custody Intervention Coach, Daniel Rios. Although he received no further action, the experience left him facing serious difficulties; including family breakdown, homelessness and financial hardship.
With no support network or safe place to stay, Yusuf was at risk of losing everything. Through the AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s partnership with DIVERT London, he received vital support, helping him regain stability and rebuild his future. His determination, alongside guidance from DIVERT, Bounce Back Project, and Community Training Solutions Ltd, led to his Site Access Traffic Marshall qualification and full-time work in construction.
Today, Yusuf is proud to be working again and building a more stable future for himself and his partner. And in even better news - he’s soon to become a father.
His story is a brilliant reminder of what can happen when the right support, opportunity, and belief come together.
At AFC Wimbledon Foundation, we’re proud to work alongside partners like DIVERT London, helping young people across our community find hope, purpose, and the chance to thrive.
