From Wake-Up Call to Wellness: How Dons Fit for Women Transformed Sue Pindar’s Life

When Sue Pindar first heard about Dons Fit for women through a council flyer, she was facing a crucial health wake up call.

The programme, conveniently located just across the road from Sue, offered a free, women-only session catering to all ages and abilities, an opportunity she couldn’t pass up!

“I was looking for something to help with my fitness and mobility,” Sue recalls. “My cardiovascular levels were low, and I had knee and back issues. I wanted to build strength and experience better health benefits.”

Since joining, Sue has seen incredible improvements in her mobility, fitness, and overall mental health. What surprised her the most was just how quickly she became more mobile. “I didn’t expect such rapid progress, but I feel so much better physically,” she shares.

For Sue, the programme isn’t just about exercise, it’s about community. She praises the welcoming and friendly atmosphere created by both participants and AFC Wimbledon  Foundation staff.

The team is knowledgeable and confident,” Sue says. “The sessions are well-structured, with a great variety of activities like circuits, volleyball, badminton, basketball, and football. There’s no pressure, no egos, just a safe, enjoyable space for everyone.”

Beyond the physical benefits, Dons Fit for Women has given Sue a sense of purpose and routine. “It gets me up on a Monday morning, puts me in a better mood, and improves my mental health. There’s a real social benefit too, I’ve met new people and feel more connected.”

When asked how the programme could improve, Sue had only one request: keep it going! She hopes the sessions continue, even during holidays, with a structured rota to maintain momentum. Most importantly, she believes keeping the sessions free ensures accessibility for all.

Sue wholeheartedly recommends Dons Fit for Women to others. “If you’re thinking about joining, do it! The people are incredibly friendly, the sessions are fun and structured well, and the benefits—physically, mentally, and socially—are fantastic.”

Thanks to Dons Fit, for Women Sue has not only improved her fitness but also found a supportive community that keeps her motivated. Her journey is a testament to the power of accessible, inclusive fitness programmes in transforming lives.
