Octavia builds her bravery

8-year-old Octavia has built her bravery playing football and is now confident to play against boys at school, after attending AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s programmes for two years.

Octavia joined our Wildcats sessions after finding out about them from a friend, before joining our holiday courses, where she has taken part in both girls-only and mixed sessions.

With the ambition to one day play for AFC Wimbledon and England, Octavia says the sessions have helped her be braver in school, where she is now comfortable playing against boys and older children.

The coaches have helped me be braver in school and learn to play with the boys - I have learned resilience
— Octavia, age 8

Our Football Development Officer, Scott Lockwood, explained that “Octavia has grown in confidence, belief and ability. She is a wonderful child to have at our programmes and is always happy.”
