Haydon’s Heroes Take the Leap for AFC Wimbledon Foundation!
On Sunday 26th October, a brave team known as Haydon’s Heroes took to the skies for AFC Wimbledon Foundation, completing an incredible skydive from 15,000 feet in support of the Foundation’s work in the local community.
The skydiving challenge was the latest adventure in Haydon the Womble’s 20th season of fundraising, as he aims to raise a minimum of £20,000 for charities. When the skydive was suggested Haydon didn’t hesitate to accept the challenge, though he quickly realised he needed a team!
Soon, a team was formed: Les Evans, Scott Clarke from Parkway Driving School, our very own Kerrie Hoath from AFC Wimbledon, and of course, Haydon himself. Together, they became Haydon’s Heroes. Four individuals united by community spirit and a goal to raise money for AFC Wimbledon Foundation.
The group arrived at the airfield early on a bright but chilly morning. After their training session and getting suited up, they prepared to board the plane. Haydon was the first to jump, followed by Scott, Les and Kerrie. Haydon quoted:
“I totally recommend it to anyone that wants to raise money for the Foundation.
The adrenaline as you free fall at speed, is something none of us will forget, then the calmness when the parachute is opened and you float to the ground admiring the amazing views along the way is something everyone should experience at least once.”
Between them, Haydon’s Heroes have already raised over £2,500 for AFC Wimbledon Foundation, with donations still coming in. The funds will directly support the Foundation’s programmes, which use the power of sport, education, and community engagement to improve lives across Merton and Wandsworth.
