Keeping Kids Active: How Your Support Makes a Real Difference

As we head into the festive season, it’s a perfect moment to reflect on the importance of keeping children active, healthy and build confidence. Recent national findings show encouraging progress: more children and young people are getting involved in sport and physical activity than at any point since 2017-18. Over half a million more now meet the Chief Medical Officers’ guideline of at least 60 minutes of activity each day.

But there’s still work to do. Fewer than half of children reach those daily activity levels, and too many miss out on the physical, social and mental health benefits that active play and sport bring. That’s why community support matters more than ever, and why our Christmas Appeal plays such a vital role.

Money raised through the AFC Wimbledon Foundation Christmas Appeal not only provided presents for children at St George’s Hospital, but also supports our Club Together Bursary, which removes financial barriers so every young person can take part in our activities. From football sessions to multi-sport programmes, the bursary helps children stay active, connected and confident, and ensures no one misses out.

Together, We Can Keep Kids Moving!

Whether it’s enabling a child to join a weekly session, boosting wellbeing at a tough time, or putting a smile on a hospital ward, your support genuinely transforms lives in our community.

  • £10 could provide an inclusive and accessible sports session for a child with special educational needs

  • £25 could cover a match ticket and travel so a young supporter can enjoy a visit to Plough Lane.

  • £50 could support a young person to take part in several days at one of our holiday football camps or the Kicks programme, helping to keep children active, engaged and off the streets.

  • £100 or more could help train a future coach or referee, providing skills, qualifications and role models our community can be proud of.
