‘The Dark Destroyer’ helps raise vital funds

Shaun Wallace from ITV’s The Chase hosted our first End of Season Quiz, helping to raise over £6,000 for AFC Wimbledon Foundation to support our local community.

On Thursday, 33 teams took on a fun, challenging and hotly-contested quiz at the sold out event, with ‘The Dark Destroyer’ entertaining the the crowd while taking them through the questions. The quiz included a range of general knowledge questions, as well as a ‘Wombling Free’ round focused on Wimbledon players and staff, past and present.

Across the evening, which included a raffle and an auction, Shaun helped raise an incredible £6,114 for AFC Wimbledon Foundation to continue inspiring, supporting and delivering positive change in our community.

As a lifelong Chelsea fan, Shaun enjoyed some friendly banter with the crowd, as well as celebrating a fan who had come all the way from Glasgow for the event.

‘Great Aspirations’ collect their Winners Medals

The quiz was won by ‘Great Aspirations’ with a whopping 136 points, who won a private wine event at Jereboams along with their winners medals. Thank you to Jereboams for donating this prize, which will focus on themed wines from the last 6 winners of the European Championships.

‘Great Aspirations’ were closely followed by ‘Meddling Amateurs’ on 131 points, who included several Dons Trust Board members on their team. They took home eight bottles of Castano Wine, kindly donated by Pip Yarwood from Liberty Wines.

Before the quiz results were announced, Shaun conducted the draw for the raffle, with prizes including: a tour of the AELTA grounds; Baylis & Harding Gift Sets; and Ten tickets to a day at the County Championship to watch Surrey at the Oval.

MC Shahab Mossavat then lead an auction, with the opportunity for people to bid on some excellent items, such as: an AFC Wimbledon 23/14 Shirt; a training ground experience to watch the Men’s First Team; an exclusive guided tour the Dulwich Picture Gallery, lead by the Gallery’s Director and AFC Wimbledon Foundation Chair of Trustees, Jennifer Scott.

Thank you to AFC Wimbledon, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Surrey County Cricket Club and The Wimbledon Foundation for supporting the event by kindly donating prizes.
