the launch of our new Healthy Hearts programme
AFC Wimbledon Foundation is proud to launch its new Healthy Hearts programme at The Nelson Health Centre in Wimbledon, supporting local residents to improve their health, wellbeing and confidence in a safe and welcoming environment.
Delivered in partnership with Fulcrum, the 12-week healthy lifestyle programme is designed for individuals at risk of heart-related conditions, as well as those living with or recovering from heart conditions. The programme forms part of AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s ongoing commitment to improving health and wellbeing across the local community.
The Healthy Hearts programme provides community-based support for participants to become more active, make positive lifestyle changes, and connect with others through weekly sessions focused on physical and mental wellbeing. Sessions include 45 minutes of gentle supervised physical activity, followed by workshops covering heart health, nutrition, healthy lifestyle habits and overall wellbeing.
The programme officially launched this week at The Nelson Health Centre, with AFC Wimbledon first-team goalkeeper and Healthy Hearts ambassador Nathan Bishop attending one of the first sessions to meet participants and show his support.
The Nelson Health Centre, developed by Fulcrum in partnership with the NHS, has become an important hub for community health services in Wimbledon. Through this partnership, AFC Wimbledon Foundation has been able to use the centre’s gym facilities to deliver the new programme and create an inclusive space for local residents to focus on improving their health.
Cheryl Gill, Head of Programmes at AFC Wimbledon Foundation, said:
“We know that many people face barriers when it comes to staying active or making positive lifestyle changes, which is why creating a safe, welcoming and supportive environment is so important. We’re delighted to have first-team goalkeeper Nathan Bishop as our ambassador, supporting participants and encouraging them throughout their journey.”
Sarah Beaumont-Smith, UK Strategy Director at Fulcrum, added:
“As the Government and NHS look to build a neighbourhood health service fit for the future, buildings like The Nelson Health Centre and initiatives like the Healthy Hearts programme show the vital role our existing community health estate can play.”
Healthy Hearts is the latest addition to AFC Wimbledon Foundation’s growing health and wellbeing offer, which uses the power of sport and community to help local people lead healthier, more connected lives. ()
