Wombles Walk 2026 Brings the AFC Wimbledon Community Together

Supporters, families, staff, volunteers and friends of AFC Wimbledon & Foundation came together on Sunday 28th June for the Wombles Walk 2026, taking on a 21.1km Half Marathon in support of AFC Wimbledon Foundation's Club Together Bursary.

From the moment participants gathered at Plough Lane on the sunny Sunday morning, there was an incredible sense of excitement. With AFC Wimbledon Men’s Manager Johnnie Jackson, Director of Football Craig Cope, Foundation staff, trustee’s & local Councillor’s joining the challenge, the day was about far more than completing a walk - it was about bringing our club and community together to make a lasting difference.

Walking through Wimbledon all the way to the first stop at Kingsmeadow, giving walkers a chance to refuel, they continued past Kingston Hill and Wimbledon Common. The group then paused at the Fox & Grapes, a stone throws away from where a place with special significance in AFC Wimbledon history was - the location where they held trials in 2002.

With plenty of stories shared along the way, new friendships formed and familiar faces reunited, the walk perfectly captured the spirit of AFC Wimbledon as a club & Foundation built on togetherness, resilience and constant improvement in our community.

As walkers returned to Plough Lane they were greeted by Foundation staff and volunteers waving yellow and blue flags and cheering every participant across the finish line, then they gathered at The Phoenix pub for a well-earned post-walk celebration, enjoying food, refreshments and reflections on an incredible day together.

Most importantly, the event has raised vital funds for the Foundation's Club Together Bursary. The Bursary helps ensure children and young people across our local community can access football, holiday camps, matchday experiences and opportunities to develop as future coaches, referees and community leaders regardless of their financial circumstances.

The Foundation would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the day possible. Every participant, volunteer, supporter and member of staff who took part, donated or helped behind the scenes helped make the day such a great occasion. A special thank you also goes to Johnnie Jackson and Craig Cope for championing the Foundation's work throughout the day and to AFC Wimbledon club, without your support we couldn’t have done such a fabulous event.

The success of the Wombles Walk showed exactly what makes AFC Wimbledon so special. It wasn't just about completing half a marathon; it was about bringing people together, celebrating our shared values and making a lasting difference to young people across our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Wombles Walk 2026 such a memorable occasion. We can't wait to do it all again next year!
