Sean cycles to help children stay active

On Saturday long-time Wimbledon fan Sean will be joining Team Velo and Blue to take on the Dons Cycle Challenge in support of AFC Wimbledon Foundation.

Taking on Box Hill will not be the first time he has pedalled for a good cause, having previously joined a group of Dons fans to represent Wimbledon in the Football to Amsterdam cycle ride, covering 145 miles.

Having been a Wimbledon season ticket holder for over 30 years, including 11 serving on the Dons Trust Board, Sean knows how important it is for the club to play a role in supporting the local community.

Sean’s son honed his football skills at the club’s community programmes in Wimbledon Park in the early days of AFC Wimbledon and now coaches in the Academy.

As a Wimbledon fan I’m proud of the work the Foundation does in the local community and I’m glad I can help

A keen cyclist, Sean has also completed the 100 mile Prudential Ride, once again donning Wimbledon colours.

Sean was inspired to join the Dons Cycle challenge by the work AFC Wimbledon Foundation do “with children to help them be more active”, especially the opportunities we provide to children “who otherwise couldn’t afford it”.

A report from Sport England showed that children from the least affluent families are 20% less likely to be active than their more affluent peers.

AFC Wimbledon Foundation aims to ‘Inspire Active Lifestyles in Local Children’ and ensure that every child has a chance to play sports or exercise.
