Support Team Velo and Blue

On Saturday Team Velo and Blue will be taking on the Dons Cycle Challenge, climbing the Surrey hills in support of AFC Wimbledon Foundation.

Learn more about some of them and why they’re taking on Box Hill below. Every pound they raise will enable AFC Wimbledon Foundation to inspire, support and deliver positive change in our community.

Last season the Team travelled to AFC Wimbledon’s away game vs Leyton Orient, but this year the challenge is much tougher!

AFC Wimbledon Foundation engages and inspires over 3500 people every week across Merton, Wandsworth and Kingston, in order to inspire, support and deliver positive change in our community.

Sean is cycling to help local children stay active

Sean, pictured above after completing London to Brighton in Wimbledon colours, has been supporting Wimbledon since the 80s and has been a season ticket holder for over 30 years.

A keen cyclist, Sean previously joined a group of Dons fans to represent Wimbledon in the Football to Amsterdam cycle ride, covering 145 miles in support of Prostate Cancer UK. He has also completed the 100 mile Prudential Ride, once again donning Wimbledon colours.

Sean was inspired to join the Dons Cycle challenge by the work AFC Wimbledon Foundation do “with children to help them be more active”, especially the opportunities we provide to children “who otherwise couldn’t afford it”.

A report from Sport England showed that children from the least affluent families are 20% less likely to be active than their more affluent peers. O

AFC Wimbledon Foundation aims to ‘Inspire Active Lifestyles in Local Children’ and ensure that every child has a chance to play sports or exercise.

Amy is cycling to provide sporting opportunities for women and girls

Amy, pictured taking on the Col des Aravis in France, has always enjoyed a variety of different sports. Having previously bowled for Surrey Cricket, she now plays in goal for Woking FC Women, helping the team reach a cup final this season.

Amy is taking on the Dons Cycle Challenge to help ensure that all women and girls are afforded the same opportunities to play sport and keep active.

Sport has always been a big part of my life and I want all women and girls to have the same opportunities I had
— Amy

AFC Wimbledon Foundation ‘Champions Sustainable Sports Participation for Women and Girls’, engaging them to get and stay active. We want to add more FREE women and girls only sessions to what we already do and employ more inspirational female coaches.

Paul is Cycling to expand the work of the Foundation

Our very own Fundraising Manager Paul Munro is taking on the Dons Cycle Challenge to help expand the work of the Foundation.

Having helped AFC Wimbledon Foundation achieve the target of engaging and inspiring 3500 people every week, Paul wants to go even further, helping our community pursue their dreams.

Working for AFC Wimbledon Foundation I have seen first-hand what the power of sport can do
— Paul Munro, Head of Fundraising

Paul understands how valuable an active lifestyle can be and wants to help the Foundation deliver even more impactful programmes, across Merton, Wandsworth and Kingston.
